Dr. Hemn Muhammad Salh, Head of the Research Park Department at Deanship of R&D centers – Koya University, recently participated in the ICTP/IAEA workshop on “Mobile Techniques for Radiation Monitoring,” held in Trieste, Italy. His participation was fully granted, with the support prioritizing researchers from developing countries. The workshop aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of nuclear scientists, engineers, and radioprotection specialists in utilizing mobile techniques for radiological data acquisition in their respective countries.
Dr. Salh gained valuable insights into the latest advancements in radiation detection technologies, including new models of scintillation detectors for gamma spectroscopy, mobile and UAV-based gamma spectroscopy systems, and the use of software platforms for radiological mapping. He also had the opportunity to engage in practical field exercises using portable spectrometers and UAV-based instrumentation, gaining hands-on experience in radiological mapping and environmental monitoring.
This experience will play a key role in Dr. Salh’s ongoing research and development activities at Koya University, particularly in adopting mobile techniques for radiological mapping and environmental control. His participation further reinforces the university’s commitment to advancing sustainable and low-cost solutions for radiation monitoring in Iraq.
